What Is The #1 Danger If I don't have Car Insurance?

A car incident is one of the worst things that can happen to an individual. Luckily for you, you have insured your car and can file for a car insurance claim. You don’t? Unfortunately for you not only do you have to pay full price for repairs and potential damage charges. Not only that but it is also a crime to drive in Singapore without insurance for your vehicle. This means that not only did you have to pay extra fees for repair, but also a fine and potential jail time as well as having your driver’s license revoked. All this despair and trouble just to save some money on insurance fees.

Unfortunately, it is commonplace for new drivers to forgo buying insurance for their motor vehicles and opting to take the risk in Singapore, often citing their main reason as “not having the money” to pay for proper insurance or even saying that they will never need it anyway because they won’t get into accidents or ever need to make a claim. However, this is a very short-sighted and narrow minded decision which will surely come to bite them back in the future.

Firstly, even if you never do get into an accident and need to make a claim, just driving in Singapore without an insurance plan for your vehicle is a crime and carries heavy punishment with it. If you are caught without insurance and convicted, you face a fine of up to S$1,000, imprisonment for up to 3 months, or both. You will also have your driving license revoked for 12 months after you are convicted. So one must ask, is it really worth saving a bit of money in the short term if you risk staining your record by getting a criminal record as well as pay a fine higher than the fee itself?

This gets even worse if you ever get into an accident. Not only will you be convicted for being found driving without insurance, you will also have to pay for repairs of your motor vehicle that would’ve been covered by the insurance plan. To top this off, if a third party decides to press charges, you could find yourself facing a lawsuit and having to pay for any losses, damages and medical expenses for the third party as well which would have been covered by the insurance plan.

And aside from these consequences, if you have any loved ones, it should be your responsibility to ensure that you follow proper measures to prevent them from coming into harm or causing pain for them by being convicted for something so shallow. The peace of mind of having proper insurance and knowing that you are protecting your loved ones should be worth a lot more than however much money you save from not getting an insurance plan. By not getting adequate insurance, not only are you putting yourself at risk, but also anyone with you.

By no means must you get the highest insurance plan, but one that will suit your situation and if you are tight on money getting a cheaper plan is still better than none. This will come a long way if you ever need to make a car insurance claim and could be a lifesaver when it matters the most.
